I once saw a street race video that said it was “filmed in mexico” and when I asked why all the signs were in English they responded with “I meant new mexico”. I think they thought new Mexico was a part of Mexico but English speaking

I can’t believe how often that happens. Even among reasonably intelligent American adults, you often need to repeat yourself a few times and emphasize “New” for them to get that you mean the state.

It’s so funny how people in my area (DC) will post a quick street racing video on YouTube or Instagram and be like *undisclosed road in mexico* when we clearly see signs for shit like the pentagon or Georgetown.

In my experience, doesn’t seem to happen as with those. But, you might have to add clarification once in a while if you’re trying to talk about a different York other than New York (eg York, Pennsylvania or York, England).
